Basic Maintenance... There are a few things you need to do to keep your garage door working smoothly and safely.  You should do a yearly checkup of your garage door and all of its parts to head off any problems before they start.  These are just general maintenance and you should be able to do them with no problem without having to hire anyone to do it for you.  The basic maintenance is easy but for the major repairs I highly recommend a professional as it can be dangerous to work with the high tension springs that are common on most garage doors. Basic Maintenance To Complete: Check your garage door spring tension; while door is in the down position, release the emergency pull for manual operation. Raise your door by hand, if it is heavy and won't stay up or wants to drift down I recommend that you call for a spring adjustment immediately before it strains an opener or throw a cable off. Lubricate the rollers, tracks, springs, and all of the pulleys.  You can use WD40 for this.  There is special oil you can buy but I recommend just using WD40 as it is much cheaper and does the job just as well. Check all nuts, Fasteners, and Bolts to make sure they are tight.  If any of these are loose just tighten them gently being sure not to strip anything out or tighten to much. Doing the above few items on an yearly basis will cut down on any major repair needs dramatically.
